Mat Brutger is an emerging artist currently living and working in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Born and raised in Collegeville, Minnesota, he graduated from St. Olaf College with a Bachelor in Arts degree in Studio Art in 2012. His work, primarily black and white photography, is often highly influenced by his sense of place and the environmental issues that surround him. He is highly interested in historic process photography, particularly platinum-palladium prints and the wet plate collodion process.
"I spent my adolescence in exploration, trekking through the aspen forests and blue grass prairies of Minnesota with my father. My father taught me to appreciate the land and pay attention to the details that make an environment interesting. I make work about the land and culture that surrounds me, with particular interest in the intersection between culture and the landscape. "
